What is sciatica?

Sciatica is a medical condition whose main cause is pressure on the sciatic nerve. It used to be a disease of manual workers. Today, this ailment more and more often affects people who exercise excessively or who do not pay attention to the correct posture while working at a desk. It can be safely stated that this problem is the bane of our times and that back pain affects nearly half of the working population. It is worth getting acquainted with this disease in order to know what to do and who to go to in case of problems. We invite you to read.

What are the symptoms of sciatica:

  • Intense pain in the lower back, radiating down through the buttock to the back of the thigh, calves and the foot. Pain described by patients as stinging or excruciating. It usually starts with back pain in the lumbar region but may well involve one or two lower limbs. Sciatica usually affects only one side of our body
  • Numbness or tingling in part of the leg, especially in the morning
  • Difficulty moving a leg or foot - the effect of a heavy leg,
  • Abnormal sensation in the legs,
  • Strong pain when lifting the leg

What are the causes of sciatica:

  • Long-term sitting, which causes pressure on the sciatic nerve - a good example is long-term driving while sitting in a seat that is too deep or prolonged tension while pressing the gas pedal
  • Work during which we lift heavy objects
  • Pregnancy and postpartum period - it is related to the incorrect position of the pelvis
  • Lack of proper muscle stretching, especially after training
  • Degenerative diseases of the spine, such as discopathy or curvature of the spine
  • Abnormal body structure or inflammation
  • Overweight or diabetes Improper diet
